Sand Angels

Friday Five –> Pronunciation: Fri•day ’fiv –> Function: Noun

Definition: Sampling of articles and blog posts that caught our eye that will be of interest to Head Start, parent and early childhood education communities.

This week’s Friday 5:

  1. Looking for inspiration for your outdoor play space? Look no further than Teacher Tom!
  2. @AskMrPlayground (a HSBS Physical Activity Consultant) discusses the benefits of risk during play.
  3. Planet Green writer @C_Vanderlinden has some great tips for making homemade play materials like bubbles and sidewalk chalk!
  4. Check out this amazing (and sustainable!) water pump, and the incredible play and learning opportunities it affords.
  5. NAEYC gives us this great article on music and play.

Did anything catch your eye this week? We would love to know about it — so share it in the comments section.

Don’t forget to get outside and play this weekend!  :-) Bethe

thanks for pinging my post about our handpump – it really is a great addition to our outside space – the start of some work on a new sandpit and a dry creek bed area where we have sparse grass struggling to survive and dying every summer due to water restictions!
And thanks for introducing me to your great blog!

Hurray for sand angels! It doesn’t snow here, so we do these all the time at the beach. Love the post about making things and then playing with the kids. We’ll definitely do some of those.

Thanks for including us, Bethe! I must say that our outdoor classroom has come a long way even since that post. In fact, it changes almost every day!
