Natural Learning from Birth to Five

I could name 1,000 reasons why outdoor play and the natural world are vital to a healthy, happy childhood. From Vitamin D, to stronger immune systems, to skill development and school readiness — and everything in between.
But did you know that outdoor play offers more opportunities for moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) than indoor play (Pardee, Gilman & Larson, 2005)?
To help educators and parents tap into the power of nature and outdoor play, Head Start Body Start has helped the Office of Head Start create The Natural World. This landing page offers information about creating nature-based play spaces/outdoor classrooms, as well as how to engage children in nature-based play and learning.
You’ll find a variety of free resources to help inspire confidence in using the outdoors as an integral part of children’s days — and yours. Next steps for the project include providing strategies for nature-based teaching to meet the new Head Start Child Outcomes Framework.
So, what are you waiting for?! Whether you are a teacher or a parent/caregiver, the Natural World has so much to offer. Check out this exciting, content-rich site today!
Speaking of inspiration, this video never fails. Take it outside, folks!
